Dress Gray

A first-year student's insignia was discovered by the riverbank next to the dead body of Plebe David Hand, causing a scandal at the US Grant Military Academy. The headmaster, General Hedges, is facing allegations related to possible involvement in an incident involving death and murder.

A first-year cadet's insignia is discovered near the body of plebe David Hand by the riverbank. This raises suspicions of murder and scandal at U.S. Grant Military Academy, where headmaster General Hedges aims to keep the school out of public view. Despite forensic evidence indicating David participated in consensual sexual relations shortly before his death, General Hedges attempts a cover-up. Letters from the deceased boy implicate Ry Slaight as the first-year cadet with whom David had romantic feelings. General Hedges insists on Slaight's "quiet departure" to Vietnam under court-martial charges for honor violations. Elizabeth Hand, Slaight's sister and David's confidante, seeks revenge by tracking down the first-year cadet responsible for her brother's death. In a desperate bid to save herself from prosecution, Slaight enlists Elizabeth's help in finding the real killer. This hunt leads General Hedges to reconsider his stance, while Elizabeth becomes embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the military brass.
