In this Argentine family, daughters are expected to marry in order of age, with the oldest sister already wed. The younger sisters pressure the second oldest, Maria, to find a suitor, but she hasn't met anyone she likes. To help her, her father, Eduardo, creates a "mystery man" by sending her flowers and love letters. However, things become complicated when an American dancer, Robert Davis, enters the picture, and Maria falls for him, despite her father's disapproval.
