Gino Micelli, an Italian immigrant, has built a successful sheep farming operation with his brother Alberto and their loyal hand, Bene. Gino treats Bene like a son and plans to leave the operation to him, along with his daughter Angie. However, Bene and Angie never express romantic feelings for each other. Gino decides to marry Rosanna's sister Gioia in Italy without meeting her first, but their marriage faces obstacles as Gino wants Gioia to be like his late wife Rosanna. Gioia wants to be treated as an individual, not just the spirit of her sister, and also wants her life to be her own.
