In the Old West of 1889, the notorious Yosemite Sam dominates Canasta Flats with his lightning-fast draw. However, Bugs Bunny, a quick-witted saloon patron, challenges Sam to a duel, which quickly descends into a dirty fight. Sam abandons the duel to pursue a train robbery, but Bugs commandeers the train, thwarting the heist. Sam repeatedly fails to catch up to the train, eventually hijacking another to threaten a collision with Bugs' train. The two engage in a game of chicken, but Bugs outsmarts Sam by extending the train cars, allowing Sam's train to pass underneath. With his train destroyed, Sam is left to nurse his defeat as Bugs departs for St. Louis.
