A wealthy playboy, Brendan Byers III, seeks to serve his country as a soldier despite being classified 4-F. He instead recruits volunteers for a privately funded mission in Italy, impersonating German General Eric Kesselring to order a German retreat and pave the way for Allied forces. However, his plan is complicated by the real general's Italian mistress and a German investigation into Kesselring's involvement in the July 20 plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.
