A young girl, Billie, was initially encouraged to play sports with her peers, but her parents later steered her towards tennis, a more traditionally feminine activity. She sets her sights on becoming the world's top female tennis player. However, her ambitions are fueled by a desire for equality, as she advocates for equal prize money for men and women in the sport. When a 55-year-old male chauvinist, Bobby Riggs, issues a challenge to the prominent feminist, Billie Jean King, she initially declines. But after Riggs defeats another top female player, Billie is forced to accept his challenge in what would become a historic and iconic match.
