In late 1960s Sicily, a hunting party turns deadly when two men are killed, and the official inquiry points to a honor killing. However, a leftist professor named Paolo Laurana is skeptical of the truth and begins his own investigation, aided by a solicitor named Mr. Rosello. As Laurana digs deeper, he becomes entangled in a web of corruption and deceit that involves the mafia, politicians, and even the Church. Despite his growing obsession with uncovering the truth, Laurana's pursuit of justice ultimately leads to a tragic and inevitable conclusion.
