In 1990s post-Communist Poland, four women struggle with despair amidst the euphoria of the era. Agata, a young mother, is trapped in an unhappy marriage and obsessed with an unattainable man. Iza, a school principal, faces rejection, while her sister Marzena, an aerobic instructor, is neglected by her absent husband. Renata, a reclusive teacher, finds comfort in her singing birds and longs for her unattainable neighbor. As they pursue intense but misguided passions, their unrequited loves and bitter obsessions connect them in a linear cycle of pain.
