A bank employee's addiction to horse racing leads to a downward spiral of dishonesty, as he resorts to embezzling funds to recover his financial losses.

John Hewitt, a respected community figure, is tempted by a winning bet at the racetrack and soon becomes hooked on making larger wagers. After a streak of success, he faces a losing streak that depletes his savings. Desperate to recoup his losses, he begins to embezzle money from the bank.
