A young, unwed mother makes the difficult decision to give up her child for adoption, and instead dedicates herself to a life of song, becoming a sultry torch singer in the process.

Sally Trent, an unwed mother, surrenders her child to adoption and assumes her lover Michael Gardner has abandoned her. She reinvents herself as Mimi Benton, a sultry torch singer, and descends into a life of excess. Years later, Mimi takes a children's radio gig as "Aunt Jenny," using the platform to find her lost daughter and reconnect with Michael.
