A young boy is discovered in a French forest in 1798, unable to walk, speak, read, or write. A dedicated doctor sets out to educate and socialize the child, using a gentle and nurturing approach.

A young feral child, discovered in the woods in 1798, is taken in by Doctor Itard, who sets out to educate him despite the child's inability to walk, speak, read, or write. Against all odds, Doctor Itard's love and patience ultimately lead to the child's successful integration into society.
