In 1960s rural Spain, a poor tenant farming couple, Paco and Régula, struggle to make ends meet, working for a wealthy landowner. They have three children, including one with a disability, and the others are forced to work instead of attending school. The family's life is disrupted when Régula's eccentric brother, Azarias, joins them after being fired from his job after 61 years.
