An American exorcist, Father Peter Williams, is possessed by a demon he was trying to expel, forcing him to commit a terrible sacrilege. 18 years later, he's still haunted by his guilt and tries to keep it buried through charity work in a small Mexican town. However, the demon returns, possessing a young woman named Esperanza and spreading a deadly illness among the town's children. To exorcise Esperanza, Peter must confess his sin, but doing so will condemn him to excommunication, losing his faith, home, and soul, as well as the chance to save those he loves.
