The true story of Jean-Dominique Bauby, a renowned Elle editor, who after a stroke, is left with a severely paralyzed body, with the exception of his left eye.

Jean-Dominique Bauby, a 43-year-old Elle magazine editor, awakens in a Berck-sur-Mer hospital with locked-in syndrome, unable to speak or move except for his left eye. Despite his physical limitations, he learns to communicate using a system where he blinks to spell out words. With the help of his therapists and a translator, he decides to write a book about his life in his current state, a monumental task given his condition.
