An 11-year-old boy named Jake has recurring visions of a man and a tower, but his family and doctors think it's just his imagination coping with his father's death. However, when some strange workers arrive at his home, Jake recognizes them as monsters and flees. He then finds a portal to a desolate world called Mid-World, which matches his visions.
