The film tells the story of Binh, a 17-year-old Vietnamese boy who is forced to leave his village to find his mother in Saigon. He then attempts to escape to the U.S. with his younger half-brother Tam in 1990, facing numerous challenges along the way, including a perilous boat journey and a grueling underground economy in New York City.
