A nuclear test in the Arctic inadvertently thaws a carnivorous dinosaur, which begins its journey down North America's east coast. The only person aware of the creature's existence is Professor Tom Nesbitt, who tries to convince paleontologist Thurgood Elson of the beast's identity as a "rhedosaurus". Despite initial skepticism, Elson's disappearance during a bathysphere expedition to locate the creature confirms its existence. The rhedosaurus then wreaks havoc on Manhattan Island until Nesbitt devises a plan to stop the seemingly unstoppable beast.
