In the 1960s, two entrepreneurial African Americans, Bernard Garrett and Joe Morris, hatch a bold plan to challenge the racist norms by empowering others to achieve their American dreams. With Garrett's wife Eunice, they train a white man to pretend to be the wealthy face of their growing real estate and banking empire, while they pose as a janitor and chauffeur. As their success grows, they attract the attention of the federal government, putting everything at risk.
