In 1942, as World War II looms over New Zealand, a confidence trickster named Syd Ross orchestrates a daring plot to subvert the country's wartime efforts, leading to a gripping and true story.

1942. New Zealand is at war, with the Japanese invasion seeming imminent. Syd Ross, a confidence trickster, is released from prison and tells Prime Minister Fraser a tale of sabotage, assassination, and a Nazi plot to take over the country. Fraser contacts Major Folkes, who gives Ross a new identity and tasks him with gathering evidence on the supposed plot, while building a secret dossier to support Ross' claims.
