In 1927 Paris, Marya Zelli, a woman from West India, moves in with her acquaintances, expatriate Brits H.J. and Lois Heidler, after her art-dealer husband is imprisoned for theft. Unbeknownst to Marya, H.J. has ulterior motives for taking her in, while Lois's marriage is not as perfect as it seems. As Marya becomes increasingly entangled in the Heidlers' lives, she learns that her husband's future in France is uncertain, and she must navigate her own destiny amidst the complexities of their relationships.
