Los Angeles, present day. Deacon Hayes, frontman of small-time punk group Skins of the Fathers, phones bandmate Ally Jang in a blind panic, repeating a bizarre message: "something's living in my music." Deacon, Ally learns, has become convinced that his entire career is the result of demonic possession, now believing each of his songs and performances were created by a sinister entity using him as its vessel... and that it now wants to destroy him. Ally, fearing for Deacon's mental state, tries to step in and stage an intervention - only for events to go wrong in a way neither sees coming, soon plunging the two into a cosmic battle for Deacon's soul.
