A former convict, freed from prison after serving time for embezzlement, must evade the gangster's henchmen seeking revenge. He finds refuge in a Dublin boarding house, where he befriends the landlady and her shy daughter. The daughter finds solace in the convict's train sets, a shared escape from their troubles. But their budding connection is met with disapproval from the landlady, who also faces danger from the gangsters.
