In the midst of the Vietnam War, US soldier Sonny Stein's life is forever changed when a Mako shark saves him from certain death. Grateful for the shark's heroism, Stein becomes an advocate for their protection. After the war, he finds work in the Philippines as a marine salvager and discovers a telepathic connection with Makos thanks to a mystical medallion from a local shaman. Returning to Florida, Stein dedicates himself to defending the sharks, but his newfound abilities attract unwanted attention from a greedy scientist and a strip club owner who seek to exploit the sharks for their own gain.
