During World War II, a Hungarian Jew living in British Palestine volunteered to parachute behind enemy lines in German-occupied Yugoslavia to rescue fellow Jews from being sent to Nazi death camps. After joining the British Army, she trained in Egypt as a paratrooper for the Special Operations Executive. Hannah and her team parachuted into Yugoslavia in the spring of 1944 and joined a partisan group. Despite warnings, Hannah insisted on continuing her mission into German-occupied Hungary. Arrested at the border, Hannah and her companions were sent to a special prison, where she was subjected to torture and interrogation.
