Regimental Sergeant Major Lauderdale, a seasoned and by-the-book leader, finds himself at the forefront of a desperate battle to protect his comrades and civilians from a violent coup in a remote African outpost.

Sir Richard Attenborough plays a strict disciplinarian, Regimental Sergeant Major Lauderdale, who must host a liberal women MP at a British outpost in Africa. However, when an African officer initiates a coup against the lawful commandant, Lauderdale must use his military training to save his men from a firing squad.
