In a small North Macedonian town, a centuries-old tradition unfolds each January. The high priest tosses a cross into the water, and a group of men rush in to retrieve it. Whoever claims the cross is believed to be granted good fortune and prosperity. When a young, unemployed woman named Petrunija dives in and snatches the cross, the male competitors are outraged, feeling their pride and dignity have been threatened. Petrunija, however, refuses to back down, insisting she is the rightful winner and determined to hold onto the cross.
