In 1960s Brazil, a journalist and his friend join a terrorist group to combat the oppressive regime. However, their plan goes awry when the friend is captured during a botched bank heist. In a desperate attempt to secure his release, the journalist kidnaps the American ambassador and demands the liberation of 15 political prisoners in exchange for his life.
