In the Southwest during the Indian Wars, a sergeant takes charge of a cavalry unit after its captain is killed and lieutenant severely wounded in an Apache ambush. The surviving soldiers must make their way to a larger cavalry group or a wagon train, but first, they need water and the closest source is controlled by the Apaches.
