In a desperate attempt to escape his tormentors, 12-year-old Sam joins a Pathfinder scout troop only to discover that the leader, Peter, takes pleasure in humiliating him. When the troop embarks on a camping trip near the French border, Sam stumbles upon a mysterious figure named Kai, who is rumored to make mischief around the campfire. But as Sam tries to warn his troop about Kai's true nature, no one believes him, leaving him to face the consequences alone.
