In 1948, a group of miners discovered a gallery full of emeralds in a Swiss salt mine, but were attacked by giant black beetles, with only one survivor. Years later, explorer John Palmer is invited by a mysterious stranger, Vincent, to lead an expedition into the same mine in exchange for a large sum of money and a lakeside cottage for his family to vacation.
