Jake Huard, a young man from a shipbuilding family, makes a promise to his dying mother to attend the Annapolis Naval Academy. Despite his questionable grades, he gets selected thanks to his persistence and lobbying a Congressman. However, Jake struggles academically at the academy, constantly feeling overwhelmed and struggling to keep up with his peers. Despite the challenges, Jake finds support from his classmates and a romantic interest, Ali, and discovers a new talent for boxing, which becomes a source of discipline and motivation for him.
