In a secluded Argentine valley, Mario and Ana, a couple in self-imposed exile from Buenos Aires, reside with their 12-year-old son Ernesto. Mario operates a school and wool cooperative, while Ana, a doctor, manages a clinic alongside Nelda, a forward-thinking nun. The family's tranquility is disrupted by Hans, a disillusioned Spanish geologist, who arrives to assess the land's suitability for a hydroelectric dam, which would displace the local peasants and force them to migrate to cities.
