In 1868 Arizona, Captain Bruce Coburn leads a mission to protect settlers heading to Apache Wells from the Apaches, led by Cochise, who are on a warpath. Undisciplined soldiers, led by Corporal Bodine, complicate Coburn's task by stealing repeating rifles and deserting. Coburn vows to capture Bodine and his cohorts, while Bodine negotiates with Cochise to sell the stolen weapons, unaware Coburn has recovered them and killed the other deserters. The Apaches and settlers must now race against time to recover the stolen rifles, which are crucial to their survival.
